Faculty

Tim B. Castillo is a native New Mexican, growing up in Silver City, New Mexico. He is a tenured Associate Professor at the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of New Mexico and has been on the faculty of the School of Architec- ture and Planning since 2002. In 2010 he was appointed as the Director of the Art, Research, Technology and Science Digital Media Laboratory at the University. He holds a Master of Architecture Degree from Columbia University. He previously has taught at the University of Arizona, University of Colorado and New Jersey Institute of Technology.

 

Professor Castillo is the founder of Hybrid Environments, a critical design office that focuses on emerging technologies for ar- chitecture, research and design. His work has been published and exhibited nationally and internationally in various locations including the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (Spain), Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland), Pavillon de l’Arsenal (France), Bienal of Sao Paulo (Brazil), University of Waterloo (Canada), Tulane University, University of Utah, University of Colorado, and the University of Texas-Arlington 

Stan Bertheaud earned his B.Arch at Louisiana State University and his Masters degree at North Carolina State University. He's taught at Mississippi State University, Tulane

University, Auburn University, the University of New Mexico and Woodbury University.  Professor Bertheaud has amassed numerous awards and honors throughout his career as an architect, educator and filmmaker. Currently Bertheaud is a Professor of Architecture at Woodbury University in southern California where he teaches architectural studios (and afilmmaking course for designers). 

 

After working for several years as a registered architect and designer in New Orleans, Bertheaud attended the USC School of Film and Television earning graduate credit in Film Production and Screenwriting. Later, having served as the Paul Rudolph Visiting Professor at Auburn University (an “invited” position), Bertheaud co-created and was a consulting producer for the documentary series, ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL (with Michael Selditch).  The six-part series premiered on the Sundance Channel. It followed a dozen architecture students from Tulane University as they designed and built affordable housing for New Orleans residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The series won an award from the IDA (International Documentary Assoc.) for "Best Limited Series Documentary" in 2009. ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL was selected by Time Magazine as a “Top 10 TV Series” in its 2008 list issue.

 

In addition, Bertheaud is credited with two theatrically released screenplays. The first, TILT-A-WORLD (aka "PaintedHero") starred Dwight Yoakam in his first leading role. It went on to receive the Gold Award at the Houston International Film Festival. The second, SOUTH OF HEAVEN WEST OF HELL, premiered at the 2000 Slamdance Festival in Park City, Utah. 

 

Currently Bertheaud is working with industry colleagues, Carlos Barbosa and Michael Selditch, on a dramatic series for cable television (working title - “Magnetic WEST”) about architects, egos, love, hate and flat roofs.
